Faculty Associations

Auckland University Arts’ Students Association (AUASA)

The AUASA executive brings you educational, social and sporting events to the largest Faculty at the University of Auckland. The executive’s responsibilities include liaising between the student body, the Arts Faculty, First Year Experience and various clubs on campus. The vision is to build a vibrant culture for arts students and to increase the employability of arts’ graduates. We are a friendly executive and would love to listen to your ideas and any concerns you may have.

AUASA was officially established in late 2013. Despite this, the founding team and first executive have already brought you numerous events, including steins, a market day, a case competition and partaking in inter-faculty competitions.

In the upcoming year of 2014, the diverse and experienced executive wants to bring you more social activities, networking functions, quality competitions, a mentoring programme and your own student publication for arts students. We have ambitious goals working with the faculty, university, sponsors, AUSA and student clubs.

The Auckland University Engineering Students Society is a social, education sporting and representational society run by engineers for engineers and any other students who can live up to the motto “Work Hard – Play Harder”.

The society is run by an elected volunteer executive, with approximately 700 members. AUESS runs Educational and Social events throughout the year. These include our four awesome Steins (Best beer to cash ratio in town), End of Year dinner for Part IV students, Engineering First Year Orientation and Social Mixer, Careers Evening, The Engineering Ball, the biggest and best ball on Campus. We work with the Engineering Sports Club to bring you the official Engineering Round the Bays team, The Engineering Eagles Rugby team. Engineering Cricket, Netball and Football teams are also formed if there is interest.

AUESS provides representation of students to the engineering faculty, and the University as a whole with a close link with AUSA. We are part of Student Engineers New Zealand (SENZ) and send a group down to the annual conference to meet and socialise with engineering students from all over New Zealand.

AUESS acts as an umbrella society to the Hong Kong Engineering Students Association (HKESA), South Pacific Indigenous Engineering Students (SPIES), Women in Engineering Network (WEN), and the Revue for Engineering Students (REFS).

Auckland University Law Students’ Society (AULSS)

The AULSS executive brings you educational, social and sporting events galore in 2010! The unpaid, voluntary group of law students who sit on the executive are elected in Semester 2 each year for the following year. The executive’s responsibilities involve the facilitation of communication between the student body, the Law Faculty and The Davis Law Library. The ultimate aim is to make law school a better place for students. Students should not hesitate to approach executive officers with their concerns.

We facilitate social activities, competitions, conferences, the mentoring programme, publications and grants to various groups at law school, and rely heavily on sponsorship and fundraising. Maximise your year by enjoying the company of peers, the executive and the wider law school community.

Social events kick off with orientation events in the first week of semester down at the law school followed by a part II law camp in the following weeks. There are also five law steins per year (with heavily subsidised drinks!) BBQs, the Law School Ball, the Log of Wood sports exchange with Waikato Law School, and many more activities. We also facilitate educational seminars including essay, opinion, exam and writing workshops taught by our top students, lecturers and lawyers from firms.

The AULSS offices are located at the Eden Crescent entrance to the Law School – Building 801, Level 1

Auckland University Medical Students’ Association (AUMSA)

AUMSA is a Students’ Association specifically for the medical students of the University of Auckland. Run by medical students, the organisation aims to represent and advocate for students, not only within the medical school, but also to the university and at the national level.

AUMSA has two main roles.

Firstly, by acting as a ‘student voice’, AUMSA endeavours to represent each medical student, addressing the concerns and opinions of the student body. A close liaison with faculty members of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences means that AUMSA is a highly effective medium through which to improve curriculum and implement changes to the day-to-day running of the Medical School. At a national level, association with both the New Zealand Medical Students’ Association (NZMSA) and the New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA), means representation of medical studentsat the highest levels. AUMSA also provides support to medical studentsvia services such as Travel Scholarships for career advancement.

Secondly, AUMSA is responsible for organising events throughout the academic year. AUMSA organises events such as the Annual Medical Ball, Freshers Camp, Medical Revue, Pub Quizzes and Pub-Crawls, as well as frequent Sporting Events and Dance classes. The medical school student magazine, ‘New Doctor’, is also provided by AUMSA. Welfare and educational programmes are provided each year, including the prestigious Futures in Medicine Seminar, Health Seminarsand Career Information Evenings.

AUMSA is an incredibly important organisation for medical students to join, providing support, advocacy, entertainment, and discounted prices to members. AUMSA also offers joint membership with the NZMA and the NZMSA, helping to ensure quality advocacy and representation throughout all years of medical school (and beyond!).

Join AUMSA today! We provide support and events for everyone!

Auckland University Commerce Students’ Association (AUSCA)

The University of Auckland Commerce Students’ Association was founded in 1998 by the AUSA Treasurer to scam money from AUSA to spend on social events. The following year the gravy train was cut off forcing the CSA exec to fine-tune their ‘wheeling and dealing’ with corporations to secure funding.

The AUCSA executive organizes a range of social and academic events throughout the year. Examples of which are: Steins; Meet The CEO Speaker Series, Infamous Bus Pub Crawls; the Annual Commerce Ball; Prestigious Corporate Forums and sports events.

In O-week make sure you sign up to be a member at the Owen G Glenn Business School. There’ll be music; a BBQ; refreshments and sponsors products to enjoy in the sun.

To find CSA at other times of the year check out their office in the student centre, Level 1 OGGB. For more information send an email to commerce.students.association@gmail.com or visit the CSA website at www.aucsa.org.nz
