Students For Students
Tauira mō ngā take tauira
Auckland University Students’ Association (AUSA) helps students who find themselves in unexpected emergency situations. Support is extended via food parcels and hardship grants of up to $200 to tide over students in pressing situations. Any donated money will go directly to helping students in urgent need.
Even when students plan and budget carefully, things go wrong. You never know when it might be you. The welfare service provided by AUSA is one of the few places students can turn to when they are faced with a problem that will prevent them from studying, and often from eating or paying rent. With your help, we will be able to help more students in desperate situations.
Students are the only sector in society who are forced to borrow to pay their weekly costs. Finding work is difficult, but finding work flexible enough to fit around a full time study programme can be impossible. More than 15% of students are in extreme financial distress and need support.
AUSA is a registered donee organisation, which means that your charitable donations will qualify for an IRD tax credit equal to one third of the total value of donations. At the end of each tax year, our accounts team will make sure you are sent a receipt so that you can claim your tax credit.
Money donated to AUSA Welfare goes directly to students. Please consider setting up an automatic payment to help us help students. Even $1 a week will make a huge difference. In 2014, we have granted $5315 in hardship grants and over 200 food parcels to date. About a fifth of welfare service users have dependants. This is high in proportion to the number of student who have dependants on campus as a whole. As these students have others to support we have adjusted the hardship grant cap for these students to $400 accordingly.
AUSA currently accepts direct debit, cash, eftpos and credit card after you have filled out this form we will email you with your requested payment instructions.
